   A polyhedron with eight triangular and six octagonal faces that is an Archimedean solid and can be constructed by truncating a cube at each vertex along each adjoining edge.

   • The truncation procedure that produced the truncated cube I can be applied to arbitrary polyhedra so as to obtain new polyhedra.
   • The truncated cubes are obtained by symmetrically edging the eight vertices of the cube by l × t, where l is the length of the cubes side and 0 < t ≤ 1/2. When t = 1/2, a cuboctahedron is obtained.
   • In this subsection the optical behavior of different truncated cubes will be analyzed and compared to those of a cube and of a sphere of the same dimensions.
