Uncertain. * Possibly a blend of terrestrial + celestial, which are the names of the other two degrees of glory. * Possibly related to Ancient Greek τῆλε (têle, “at a distance, far away”), Ancient Greek τέλος (télos, “end, purpose”) * Also possibly Latin tellus (“ground or earth”).
