From Middle English *outseken, outsechen. Equivalent to out- + seek. Cognate with Saterland Frisian uutsäike, West Frisian útsykje (“to seek out”), Dutch uitzoeken (“to pick, sort out, investigate”), Low German utsöken, German aussuchen (“to choose, select, pick out”).
