  1. Having the centromere near the middle, and thus having roughly equal-sized arms.

    • The derivative that is lacking is formed by the complete acrocentric short arm and the proximal long arm segment and perhaps a terminal segment from the nonacrocentric chromosome.
    • Gabriel-Robez et al. have shown a ratio of 1:4 for translocations with an acrocentric present, compared with nonacrocentric translocations in fertile males.
