Etymology

A combination of the slang terms aura (“person's unique charismatic aesthetic”) + farming (“repetitive behavior to procure a desired outcome”). The term originates in early 2024, (around the time the slang sense of aura became popular), but was further popularized in mid-2025 after a video of Indonesian boy Rayyan Arkan Dikha dancing on a boat went viral on TikTok.
